The MITRE Corporation’s Public-Sector business (MPS) seeks a seasoned Strategic Communications Manager to develop, direct and integrate strategic communications, outreach and related stakeholder engagement to create and promote the brand, identity and benefits of MPS.
MPS is an exciting and dynamic organization that helps our sponsors and partners to address some of the toughest national and global challenges in support of theU.S. Government. MPS includes five of MITRE’s federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs)— the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD), the Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM), the CMC Alliance to Modernize Healthcare (CAMH), the Homeland Security System Engineering and Development Center (HSSEDI), and the Judiciary Engineering and Modernization Center (JEMC).
MITRE is seeking a candidate who will serve as a Public-Sector Business Communications Strategist for the Strategic Communications division. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned communications professional with strong project management and negotiating skills and proven ability to plan, execute, measure and improve internal and external communications programs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cross-center/cross-division communications strategy, messaging, content development and rollout
  • Lead and/or support high-visibility, complex communications projects within their domain
  • Lead strategic engagement strategies and outreach with diverse internal and external stakeholders and partners
  • Contribute to and evolve existing standards and processes utilizing best practices in communications and communications project management
  • Ensure a high level of quality and consistency in communications planning, project scheduling and project execution
  • Adopt a consultative approach, working with senior management to analyze their business objectives and desired outcomes to provide recommendations, and develop appropriate communications strategies aligned to business goals
  • Recommend and conduct appropriate communications research
  • Analyze, measure, and document effectiveness of executed communication strategies
  • Develop core content including presentations and reports for executives and senior management about company and business unit direction
  • Serve as communications lead or consultant for center communications campaigns and major corporate initiatives
  • Provide support to external communications including: developing proactive media strategies to showcase key programs, responding to press inquiries, scheduling and coordinating interviews, and developing effective measures of success where appropriate
  • Manage projects and supervise graphic designers, writers, photographers and videographers to create effective pieces for print and online distribution

  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful, measurable communication strategies and programs with expertise in consulting and developing communications solutions aligned to business goals
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to coach, mentor, counsel and direct the work of others
  • Proven success navigating complex, sensitive issues and diverse stakeholder groups with poise and decorum
  • Outstanding project-management experience, including creating and managing schedules and budgets, tracking tasks and hours, and ensuring that projects remain on schedule and on budget
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast paced, high profile environment as both an individual contributor and as a member of a team
  • Strong results-orientation and demonstrated ability to manage communications plans from concept through execution
  • Strong consulting skills; demonstrated ability to work with executive and senior management to analyze problems, recommend appropriate communication solutions and facilitate more informed decisions
  • Ability to monitor best practices and deliver new, imaginative communication solutions
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and respond to changing schedules and priorities while successfully managing multiple projects
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance

Desired Skills
  • 8-10 years’ experience serving as a communications advisor to senior executives
  • Bachelors or higher degree in communications, media relations, public affairs, or related field; MBA a plus
Writing and project examples required.
