MITRE, a not-for-profit Federally Funded Research and Development Center, provides transformative solutions to a wide range of some of the government’s hardest technical problems. Become part of this high-performance team in support of mission operations.

We are seeking technical candidates with a strong computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering education and background to join a systems engineering and research team focused on reverse engineering activities in support of our High Level sponsors. You should have hands-on experience in software analysis, design; software/hardware reverse engineering; a wide variety of cyber systems including embedded systems, infrastructure devices, associated system protocols, and analysis of edge computing devices. You will be integrated into a selected team to perform in-depth systems analysis of a wide variety of systems including mobile devices, embedded systems, infrastructure devices, weapons systems, and associated system protocols. You must have the ability to identify vulnerabilities in systems. The systems analysis activities include cyber system and protocol research, hardware and/or software reverse engineering, and the documentation of findings and recommendations. The viability and potential impact of the findings will often require team members to develop proof-of-concept exploitations based on identified vulnerabilities.

Key Functions:
  • Given a target communications device, use reverse engineering tools and methods to determine vulnerabilities of the device for information assurance purposes.
  • Initial steps include studying how the device operates, configuring it, determining how it boots/initializes, and obtaining a binary that can be used for reverse engineering.
  • Goals for the reverse engineering effort include identifying the function that respond to network connections requests, understanding internal communications mechanisms, outlining the general structure of the system software, and determining how system state is altered/saved.
  • On conclusion, project deliverables will be a report and presentation summarizing what was learned.

Positions Requirements: TS/SCI with Polygraph, BS Degree, and 2-5+ years' related experience.
