Prototyping and Software Engineering Interns

As an intern at the MITRE St. Louis site, you will develop cutting edge solutions to real-world sponsor problems. Interns will work in a small team with a senior engineer as a guide and mentor. Projects will be scoped for the team to complete the entire project during their internship, including requirements, design, prototyping, documentation, and presentation. Potential projects may include software development, data analytics/science, systems engineering, solutions engineering, IoT, and embedded systems development.

Key Functions:

• Participate in a team of interns to design and prototype a solution to a sponsor problem 
• Learn from experienced technical staff while applying current techniques to support MITRE tasks 
• Work together as a team with guidance from a senior engineer 
• Document and publish design artifacts, white papers, briefings, etc. 
• Brief progress to department staff and sponsors


Required Qualifications:

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in a technical discipline (including but not limited to Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, etc.) 
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively as a member of a team 
• Ability to communicate technical subjects to a variety of audiences 
• U.S. citizen able to obtain a clearance



Preferred Qualifications:

• Academic experience in one or more of the following areas: systems engineering, computer engineering, computer science, data analytics, semantic processing, simulation, modeling, or optimization 
• Experience with one or more programming language (e.g. Python, C#, R, Java, etc.) 
• Experience with one or more virtualization technologies (e.g. VirtualBox, VMware, Docker, Amazon EC2, Azure, etc.) 
• Knowledge of a software development lifecycle, Agile methodologies and principles, and automated testing (e.g. DevOps, Scrum, Kanban)
