The Agile Engineering and Innovation Dept (T851) is looking to fill an immediate need for a Software Systems Engineer at MITRE Huntsville. S/he will consult across a wide range of projects as well as reach across the Software Engineering Tech Center to bring in various software engineering disciplines to help solve problems for the local sponsors. The applicant must have a wide breadth of knowledge in software engineering across the software development lifecycle, have the curiosity to explore emerging technology, have a passion for continual learning, and work well as a consultant. S/he should be comfortable working outside of his or her areas of expertise to help identify and describe local customer/sponsors problems to others and assist in project definition and shaping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with technology layers required for a production software product, with the functional knowledge and ability to take a concept and work with a team to turn it into a finished product
  • Experience in software development using an agile development philosophy
  • Ability to coach teams with technical and non-technical staff on how to apply sound software engineering practices to large systems
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously deliver and maintain production software systems
  • Well versed in the art of technical documentation
  • Experience with data standards and data modeling

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field and 3 years of experience.
  • Ability to apply advanced principles, theories and concepts comparable to those obtained with a Master's degree in a relevant field of study.
  • Understand the missions, domains and challenges of MITRE customers and is fully responsible for deliverables-including definition, completion, and technical quality, as well as assuring consistency across the responsibility span.
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
  • At least 3 plus years’ experience in one of the top-level software domains in preferred qualifications - Ability to explain technical approaches to influence government leadership and staff.

  • Obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 plus years’ experience in one of the top-level software domains in preferred qualifications
  • Experience in software development using agile development (SCRUM, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)) and software development management tools (JIRA).
  • Agile development planning and management
  • Translating agile metrics to make them understandable for program and acquisition leadership
  • Driving planning teams in meetings and tasking.
  • Coordinating engineering team consisting of government and contractors to create documentation on engineering processes and metrics on agile processes.
  • Use of software development tools/environments (JIRA).
  • Contribution to and management of software technical requirements development and software technical documentation.
  • Experience with developing a Software Development Plan (SDP)
  • Experience with developing a Software Engineering Plan (SEP)
  • Evaluating, revising, and composing software requirements
  • Evaluating, revising, and composing software technical documentation
  • Familiarity with IEEE standards for software documentation (such as IEEE STD 1016-2009 Systems Design Software Design Descriptions)
  • Experience in development of software on cloud-based hosting environments (Amazon Web Services, GovCloud, and/or C2S)
