We are looking for talented problem solvers with a passion for adapting emerging academic and commercial technologies to develop cross-cutting innovative solutions for the defense, intelligence, and civilian communities.

In this role as a Lead C++ developer, you would assist in rapid prototyping of creative solutions to emerging problems.  Candidates with a general comfort using C++ to solve a wide array of geometric or geospatial reasoning problems are preferred.  On any given day, your work might involve computer vision, image processing, vehicle routing, numerical optimization, clustering, statistical inference, computer graphics, or other types of geometric or geospatial reasoning.  This is not a typical software development or research position -- our timelines are often short, and your work will often need to change or pivot to keep up with the dynamic nature of our work.  Qualified candidates will have the creativity and experience necessary to know which algorithms to use to get good results quickly.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in CS and at least 5 years of work experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience using C++ on a regular basis, including familiarity with templates.
  • Prior experience reading and independently implementing mathematical algorithms described in research papers. Please give examples of some of the algorithms you have implemented in your cover letter.
  • Experience using a variety of different numerical optimization techniques in your prior work, and a general understanding of available numerical optimization techniques, their applicability, pros, and cons to different types of optimization problems.
  • Experience in image processing, computer vision, computer graphics.
  • Strong math skills including linear algebra, calculus, trigonometry, projective geometry.
  • Comfortable programming in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with modern source control software and methodology, including version control with Git and code reviews in a GitHub Flow-like development workflow.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for TS/SCI (applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation).

Additional (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
  • TS/SCI level security clearance.
  • At least one example of a very ambitious project you worked on, either professionally or as a hobby, where you were the sole or primary contributor, and demonstrated outstanding problem solving and algorithm development skills. 
    • Examples: implemented a rendering or physics engine from scratch, implemented novel structure from motion algorithms for 3D reconstruction, primary developer of the codebase for a startup company, implemented computational fluid dynamics simulations, created a 3D computer game, developed an algorithm for self-driving car, etc.
