MITRE's Center for Transforming Health is dedicated to improving healthcare through strategic and technology-based transformation. We advise federal agencies through all phases of the evolution of their healthcare transformation, from high-level strategic planning to program acquisition and oversight. MITRE is currently supporting multiple projects at the U.S. department of Health and Human Services including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, DoD, VA, and other federal healthcare entities. We have a need for systems engineers with strong strategic and analytical backgrounds and experience with healthcare clinical and business processes and information technology systems. The job requires a candidate who can leverage this experience to assess the "big picture" and develop and apply actionable strategic solutions that address complex healthcare problems.


Key Functions:


The position will require applying systems engineering practices to analyze complex technical, clinical, and financial systems to identify solutions to problems facing federal agencies. Working with MITRE team members and project leaders to deliver strategic advice, technical assessments, and recommendations to HHS, DOD, VA, and other healthcare entities for the advancement of healthcare and improved health outcomes.

Experience in one or more areas:

  • Application of Systems Engineering methodologies, product, and project lifecycles across different healthcare domains (could include applying knowledge of quality reporting, enrollment and eligibility, payment models or systems, clinical systems, ambulance services, social services, health protection and readiness and/or other public health systems)
  • Technical and business Requirements development to support health programs (including requirements elicitation, analysis, and development)
  • Planning for future health systems program through research and analysis
  • Health System performance measures (including Clinical Quality Measures, quality measures, and performance indicators)
  • Analysis, design, and construction of the next generation of health IT standards, systems, and processes
  • Health IT assessments including analysis of alternatives, business process modeling, and health data systems (health data and data management)
  •  Work collaboratively with senior government sponsors and MITRE colleagues
  • Develop working relationships within MITRE across all levels of staff, management, and executives to leverage the corporation's deep experience across a broad set of domains.
  • Participate in and lead highly functional and creative teams while building knowledge and working relationships across the Corporation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, computer Science, Systems Engineering or related healthcare field and 3 years of healthcare domain experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate analyses and findings to various government and non-government stakeholders 
  • Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams 
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to create high quality work products with excellent attention to detail 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or related field with 5 years of healthcare domain experience

Minimum Education/Experience:

BS and 8 years related experience
