The MITRE Corporation is seeking Lead Health IT Software Developers with a passion for applying software engineering skills to address complex healthcare challenges.

CTH is dedicated to improving healthcare through strategic and technology-based transformation. We support federal agencies in their healthcare improvement strategies by prototyping and developing tools and services that improve the quality of healthcare delivery, reduce provider burden, and enable information sharing. MITRE CTH is currently supporting multiple federal agencies including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centers for Disease Control, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Institutes of Health. Lead Software Developers are responsible for architecting and leading development of prototype tools and services. This Lead Health IT Software Developer position is within MITRE’s Open Health Services department (OHS). In OHS we prioritize rapid prototyping and piloting of user-focused software, leaning forward with new technologies, following agile development practices, and sharing our work through open source. We work in multi-disciplinary teams collaborating with clinicians, hospital administrators, health policy analysts, and public health experts. We work on a wide variety of projects, with many opportunities to explore different avenues and conduct research and development.

Key functions may include:
• Developing open-source Health IT software
• Being the technical lead for a multi-disciplinary team
• Developing and implementing Health IT standards
• Analyzing health data

A lead developer should:
• Have experience designing and implementing complex software applications
• Have experience working with end-users to determine requirements
• Have experience as the technical lead for a team of software developers.
• Be strong in one or more core programming languages and related frameworks; experience with or interest in Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, and/or React would be ideal
• Have a bachelor's Degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field; or have equivalent real-world experience

 • Have a strong interest in the field of health IT; previous health IT experience, particularly with FHIR, is strongly preferred
