Job Overview

The Compensation Consultant or Compensation Analyst performs advanced (senior-level) human resources management work. Work involves providing coordination, guidance, and technical support to compensation programs; maintaining variable pay programs; conducting and evaluating HR data and workforce analytics; and providing support to agency and human resources projects. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. May train and coordinate the work of others

Job Responsibilities

  • As requested, works closely with BPs to provide guidance and ongoing information on compensation programs, and in the interpretation of various guidelines. If requested, develops pay programs to meet unique needs of BPs’ customers.
  • Supports enterprise activities to build understanding of MITRE’s Pay Program by line managers, staff and HR Business Partners.
  • Leads HR’s participation in audits of compensation practices. As requested by the BPs, leads quality assurance efforts across MITRE relating to the compensation administration process—b y observation, measurement and taking corrective action, as needed. Ensures compliance with laws and regulations for all Business Partner staff and the managers they support.
  • Participates in developing salary ranges.
  • Ensures compliance with the  Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and other employment laws and regulations.

  • Reviews position classification and FLSA designations for management proposed staffing plans, reorganizations, and vacant postings.
  • Conducts job analysis and evaluation for jobs at MITRE locations
  • Maintains network of contacts with professional organizations, and consulting groups to exchange current information.  Maintains awareness of trends in the field
  • Receives general guidance from the Manager, Compensation.  Guided by generally defined practices and HR guidelines. Manager provides supervision mostly in terms of managing projects. Projects are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Projects cover a span of several months.
  • Demonstrates a high level of quantitative analysis skills, applying statistics, organizing complex data and developing assumptions to create appropriate models. Demonstrates skill integrating several software applications, including advanced Excel, Tableau, PeopleSoft Query.  Demonstrates a broad understanding of HR and policies and processes.
  • Communicates successfully through a range of material including analyses, proposals, evaluations, and recommendations. Develops and delivers presentations to directors and officers. Leads classroom training that includes complex or interpretive content.
  • Balances the needs of Compensation’s customers (mainly BPs) for responsiveness and helpfulness with MITRE’s need for a fair, consistent and competitive pay program and the sponsors’ need for cost effectiveness.
  • Applies a high degree of human relations skill, involving frequent contact with a variety of personnel within and outside the corporation. Uses influencing skills, primarily, to coordinate activities across multiple organizations and managers and to insure equity while maintaining employee satisfaction. 


  • Min. 5 yrs experience in a compensation environment
  • Bachelors degree, in Business / HR or related experience
  • CCP preferred
